RE: Suggestions Northern Georgia SP SUmmer 2009

We loved Old Federal a COE CG in Flowery Branch, GA. See some pics of our stay here. It was heavenly. But that was April -- I'm not sure what summer brings. It is pretty popular so if you decide to try it make reservations early. You can reserve specific sites. Check out this link for an interactive map to see pics of every site. The water level was really low during our visit and I'm guessing it will take awhile to recover but it was still beautiful. Lucy

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k216/crazyoldcoot/429431_sk_sm.jpg Went to Office Depot and got a box of these. Great for hanging awning lights. Genius! We have something similar, but yours I'm sure were cheaper. sigh Lucy

RE: Where to stay in Raleigh/Wake Forest NC area?

The Selma CG is RVacation. It's about 30 miles southeast of Raleigh. We would often stay here 1 night on our trips south on I-95 just to get a jump on the weekends. Also a popular over night place for other forum members. This is the route you'd want to take to get to Raleigh from this area.. To I-40. A longer drive for you -- especially if you need to be in North Raleigh each day. Lucy

We use to live in the area and before we moved I took a few pics of the NC State Fairground sites -- you can see them here. Lucy

RE: North Georgia State Parks Full hookups?

We stayed @ GA's High Falls State Park last April -- and it had grey water dumps about every other site. You can see some pics of sites and example of the Grey Water Dump here. I'm unsure how many ther GA State Parks have these, but if I were you I'd consider investing in a Blue Tote then you won't worry about it. We have one and it works great. We only use it for grey water. But I have to tell you -- I'd choose one of GAs COE CGs over High Falls SP anyday. Especially Old Federal -- beautiful place. Lucy

RE: Sun or Shade??

Ours is parked inside behind locked doors at a storage facility. We are paying thru the nose for it, but we could not live with the outdoor site we previously had. Inside we have 12 feet -- outside spaces are only 10 foot wide and our site neighbors would change frequently. Some were landscape companies -- coming and going all the time. In bad weather (tropical storms or hurricanes) the facility warned us vehicles outdoors are subject to damage as stuff flies around easily. Convinced us to cough up the xtra bucks each month. Lucy

RE: Horrible response time

Only time I ever read what is happening is in "complaint posts". What are they doing? Short - Long term? What happened to the results of the survey they took several months ago. What did they conclude -- I signed up for the followup messages -- that they were eager to share -- but I have yet to get one. P.S. I will never use the motorhome portal or the trailer life. Those ads are ridiculous. Lucy

RE: We need some new features!!

First of all it would be nice to see the last member who replied to a given topic, we see the author but not the last to reply. NCH Agree! And a picture posting Campsite area -- by state. The sticky on the CG forum is so big it's become almost useless. There was suppose to be a plan to solicit more input -- or that is what I thought when they asked us to participate in a survey several months ago. I signed up for feedback after that survey - which was intended to keep folks up to date on progress. But I've yet to get one message from them. Lucy

RE: Out of Pigeon Forge Please!

Mountain Stream RV Park in Marion, NC. We loved it there. Small CG at the base of the Appalachian Mountains. That babbling stream runs directly behind 2/3rds of the sites. Full hookups. Free WiFi -- no cable though - but a portable satelitte would work in the right spot. Access to Blue Ridge Parkway just 5 miles up the road. Checkout this page on their site --- page down to May 2007 to see site 19 & 20 -- they expanded these sites recently. We had site 19 in 2005 -- now it is much nicer. The stream is fabulous -- you can hear it everywhere in the park. The campfire ring on site 19 sits right along side the stream. There is nothing better than sitting next to that stream with a big fire. Leave your windows open at night and that stream will sing you to sleep. Lucy

RE: favorite campground in NC

Mountain Stream RV Park is our favorite in NC but they do not have a pool -- not even a playground. They do have a fabulous stream that runs behind 2/3rds of the sites...that you can fish in and they have a potluck every Saturday night. Couple times a year they have special weekends with kid activities. Entertainment list. Goose Point COE in Bassett, VA is another favorite... very remote. Be sure you have your groceries before setting up camp -- closest grocery is 15 miles away. They have a beach and playground. Loop C is the one you want. You can see some pics at this link. Just click on pic to enlarge. Lucy

RE: 25th Wedding Anniversary - Where to Go On East Coast

Willow Tree RV Resort in Longs, SC. See some pics below of our stay during March and again in December one year. Willow Tree Pics. Best sites are the signature sites which are on the lake and have hot tubs. We like site 16 the best (included in pics above). Call asap to lock in your reservation especially if you want a specific site. Good website -- has pics of every site. Willow Tree is 14 miles west of North Myrtle Beach so it still close enough to drive into down for dinner - shopping. Sites @ Willow Tree are huge -- sites at the beachfront CGs are not - IMO. But if you truly want to be camped next to the ocean, I'd recommend Myrtle Beach Travel Park over the others - largely because they do not allow golf carts zipping around all day and night - though perhaps that is not a problem in September. Might be more difficult to get an ocean front site (we were lucky to get one) but certainly worth a try. You can't see the Ocean from your site (most of them anyway because dunes are in the way), but it sure was nice not having anyone on our patio side. We were in site 413 in a rental Class A in 2004 -- you can see a pic of it here. Site with the VW beetle. Very nice and a short walk to the beach. Between Willow Tree and Myrtle Beach Travel Park we'd pick Willow Tree - but we don't go RVing to shop or eat out so we have no need to make trips into town. If it was a little later (Oct/Nov) I'd suggest Topsail Hill SP in Santa Rosa Beach, FL. The most beautiful beach I've ever been too -- and I've been to Maui. Yikes. Probably one of the top 2 or 3 CGs discussed on this forum. But I'm told Topsail can have awful biting flies in September. Hope this helps. Lucy

RE: Northern Georgia

We think Old Federal in Flowery Branch, GA is beautiful. But that is not in the mountains so perhaps it's not far enough North for you. If not this trip -- perhaps another someday. We took a day trip to Dahlonega from there -- love this little town. You can see some pics of our site some of the CG here. Lucy

RE: Painting interior of fifth wheel

I would put a coat of B.I.N. on it then use a top quality latex semi-gloss from Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams. This is what our professional painter used in our home in NC. He says the good quality latex paint nowdays is as durable as oil based. B.I.N. will prevent any bleed thru you might get from the current finish. Lucy

RE: An Example for All Campgrounds

This is camping ???? I'd probably call it RVing, but does it really matter? Sounds like they found a place to enjoy. We have been to a couple of places that seem similar and also to a couple COE CGs. We love them both for different reasons. I'll be tracking down the name of that place Dennis. Someday we'll get to CO and this is the kinda place we'd love to visit. Tks Lucy

RE: Always be alert when you stop at a highway rest area

The OP copies an article that they think might be helpful to some of us and gets flamed and insulted! :h What's up with that? You people get up on the wrong side of bed today? Yep, you're right. It's a sad commentary that there isn't ANYTHING that you can post that will be safe from some people's snide remarks. If you say it's a beautiful day, someone out there will say you're nuts because it's raining someplace! You are so right.

RE: Replacing those stupid shaded curtains

We replaced our day/night shades with MCD duo roller shades. Which is a mesh day shade and white block out shade on the same mechanism. You can see some pics of ours here. We bought ours direct from MCD but I noticed you can now buy these thru Bradd and Hall. We love them but they are not cheap. Lucky for us we got in on a OTO deal last year they were offering Tiffin owners. You can also buy RV shades from Camping world -- or I've read several folks have just bought mini blinds or shades thru Home Depot. I'm sure you can find something to fit at a local home improvement store though you may have to order it. Lucy
